Since 2002, the ilb has published the annual “Scritture Giovani” volume. The short stories in the book adhere to the year’s respective themes, and are presented by their young authors at the festivals of Hay (Wales), Mantova (I) and Berlin. This year’s participants include: Eurig Salisbury, who, at the age of 13, taught himself the traditional Welsh poetic format Cynghanedd and published his first anthology of poetry, “Llyfr Glas Eurig” (“Eurig’s Blue Book”). Antonia Baum studied Literary Sciences and History, and has published short stories and a novel: “Vollkommen leblos, bestenfalls tot” (“Completely lifeless, dead at best”). Francesca Sconti comes from Milan, where she studied Law and Music. Her collection of short stories “Qualcosa di simile” (“Something similar”) received the Premio Renato Fucini in 2011. Andrea Lundgren, more or less on accident, enrolled with the Academy for Creative Writing in Stockholm after finishing school. Her first novel appeared in 2010. Since then, she has been travelling and exploring South America, sponsored by a scholarship granted by the Swedish Writers’ Association.

The Specials section of the programme includes the festival’s smaller, special events: Scritture Giovani – now in its tenth year – is a cooperative project with two of the most important literary festivals in Europe: the “Festivaletteratura Mantova” and the “Guardian Hay Festival”, and serves to promote Europe’s younger authors. For 2011 Scritture Giovani has hunted out four young authors who have written short stories in different languages about the predefined topic “names”. These texts will be released in a trilingual edition in English, German and Italian.

Scritture giovani

Since 2002 a book containing the contributions of young "Scritture Giovani" authors has been published annually. Each year a different topic is chosen as the shared theme for short stories to be written by these young writers, and they go on to present their works personally at each festival. The book presents these works in their original form, as well as their translations into the languages of the other participating authors. The "Scritture Giovani" programme, and the publications which support it, provide the first opportunities for these writers to introduce themselves to a wider international audience.
