Llŷr hails originally from Caernarfon in north-west Wales, and is now a lecturer in Welsh at Cardiff University. His research focuses on the poetry of the early twentieth century, and the works of T. Gwynn Jones and W. B. Yeats in particular.
He has won a number of poetry competitions, including the chair at the Urdd Eisteddfod, a national youth festival, twice, and most recently the chair of the Ogwen Valley Eisteddfod, as well as poetry competitions at the National Eisteddfod. Ll r was one of the poets on the Cnoi Draenogod tour in 2012/13.
In May 2014 he published his first volume of poetry, "Storm ar wyneb yr haul". His first volume of prose, "Rhyw Flodau Rhyfel", followed in July 2014, and was selected as one of six books for the Wales Literature Exchange’s bookcase feature for the year. The volume is a blend of fact and fiction which combines the history of the author’s great-uncle, who fought in Syria during the Second World War, and the narrator’s own memories of travels in Europe.
