

David Machado was born in Lisbon in 1978. In 2001 he was awarded a degree in Economics by the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão but after three years working with figures, he gave up to dedicate himself to writing on a full-time basis. He began by publishing short stories in the DN Jovem supplement of the Lisbon daily, Diário de Notícias. In 2004 his story O Fantástico Verão do Café Lanterna was part of the Coolbooks anthology “Contos de Verão” and in 2006 Editorial Presença published his story for children entitled A Noite dos Animais Inventados, which won the Branquinho da Fonseca 2005 Prize, awarded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Expresso weekly newspaper. In the same year he published a novel entitled O Fabuloso Teatro do Gigante. His story for children Os Quatro Comandantes da Cama Voadora was published in March 2007.
