Valeria Parrella made her debut in 2003 with a collection of short stories, “Mosca più balena” (Minimum Fax), which won the First Work Campiello Prize.
In 2005 she published another collection of short stories, “Per grazia ricevuta” (Minimum Fax), which was among the five finalists for the Strega Award 2005 and won the Renato Fucini Award for the best short stories collection. In 2007 she published “Il verdetto” (Bompiani), which was played at the Teatro Stabile of Naples.
In 2008 she published her first novel, “Lo spazio bianco” (Einaudi) which was brought to the screen in 2009 in the homonymous movie directed by Francesca Comencini and played by Margherita Buy, presented at the 66th Venice Film Festival.
In 2009 “Ciao Maschio” was published by Bompiani and was soon adapted for the stage. Later “Tre terzi came out, a collection of theatre plays written together with Diego de Silva and Antonio Pascale and published by Einaudi.
She was member of the Artistic Committee of the Teatro Stabile of Naples from 2008 to 2010.
In 2010 she published “Ma quale amore” with Rizzoli and in 2011 “Lettera di dimissioni” with Einaudi.
In September 2011 she opened the Symphonic Season of the San Carlo Theatre with the libretto Terra, written of music by Luca Francesconi, in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic.
She translated and curated the Italian edition of Il Fiue, by Rumer Godden, published in march 2012 by Bompiani.
Her books were translated in Germany, France, Spain, Israel, Serbia, Sweden and the United States.
She has been writing the book column for the magazine Grazia for many years now.
